Joan passed away peacefully in her living room as she listened to her husband, Ed, read an article from a promotional magazine for the Washington Ballet. Her daughter, Lea, and youngest son, Dean, were with her, keeping her company as well.  Her oldest son, Ted, was in Los Angeles at the time, but was fortunate enough to have been able to spend some quality time with her the week before.
